Have you tried this burger yet?
The Impossible Burger is a plant-based burger that looks, smells, and tastes like a beef burger. The official launch was in September 2017, and the Oakland, California facility is already busy producing over 500,000 pounds per month. This juicy, “bleeding” burger is currently being served in over 1,000 restaurants and quickly becoming a widely-known sensation to vegans* and non-vegans alike.
Popular Youtuber Casey Neistat, who boasts over 9.3 million subscribers, taste tested White Castle’s Impossible Slider alongside it’s animal-based counterpart and preferred it’s taste and texture. This is the first time that a vegan burger has been served on a wide-scale in a fast food restaurant (when ordered without the cheese, of course!).
First White Castle, next… McDonalds?
It’s likely that not many vegans support McDonalds, and for good reason.
But what if McDonald’s chose to sell Impossible Burgers at their over 14,000 United States locations?
What if an omnivore who may have scoffed at the idea of trying a plant-based burger, tries it for the first time when they see it at the drive-thru?
What if the Impossible Burger can show people that plant-based eating doesn’t have to mean a salad?
What if even non-vegans starting opting for more plant-based options? We saw this earlier in the year with the “McVegan”. In the first month of the trial in Finland and Sweden, over 150,000 plant-based sandwiches were sold. It made such an impact, that it quickly became a permanent menu item.
At an incredible rate, people are becoming aware of the damage that animal-based products are having on their health and the planet. Seeing the Impossible Burger on the menu at McDonald’s could be someone’s only path to giving something out of their norm a try. Every time a plant-based meal is chosen, it is a win for the animals and the planet.
