Who says tofu has to be bland?! We’re giving you three new fun and delicious marinades to make sure your tofu packs a flavorful punch!
ORANGE SESAME
Ingredients:
- 1 block firm style tofu
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp orange juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- Optional ingredients (for serving suggestion): brown rice, capsicum, broccoli, cashews, sesame seeds to garnish
Method:
- Cut 1 block firm style tofu into small cubes. Coat in ¼ cup cornstarch.
- Heat oil on medium heat and cook tofu until golden and crispy.
- In the same pan, cook the garlic in sesame oil. Add soy sauce, orange juice and sugar and mix until the mixture thickens. Mix the tofu in the pan with the sauce.
- Optional: Add chopped broccoli, capsicum and cashews to the pan and serve with brown rice and sesame seeds
BAKED SESAME TOFU STICKS
- 1 block firm-style tofu
- 1 T sesame seeds
Marinade:
- 1 T sesame oil
- 1 ½ T soy sauce
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 2 tsp agave
- 1 tsp Sriracha
- ½ tsp ground ginger
Peanut Sauce:
- 1 T ground ginger
- 2 T Tahini
- 2 T peanut butter
- 3 T soy sauce
- 1 T agave
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 3 T water
(Note: for a less abrasive flavor opt for low sodium soy sauce)
- Preheat the oven to 400 F. Cut the tofu into 20 strips. Marinate with the marinade sauce for 10 minutes.
- Lightly coat a sheet of parchment paper with vegetable oil on a baking tray. Add the tofu and sprinkle on sesame seeds.
- Bake for 40 minutes, turning the tofu once halfway.
- Meanwhile prepare the peanut sauce by mixing all the ingredients.
- Serve the tofu with the sauce while hot and enjoy!
MAPLE-TAMARI SEARED TOFU
Ingredients:
- 1 block firm style tofu
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil for cooking
- 2 T tamari
- 2 T maple syrup
- ½ tsp liquid smoke
- Optional-salt/pepper for seasoning
Method:
- Prepare the marinade. Cut the tofu into ¾’ thick rectangles. Marinate for 20 minutes. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil on medium/high heat.
- Add the tofu and marinade. Cook until golden and crispy. This makes a delicious addition to virtually every salad!
