Most people know Evanna Lynch as the loveable Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, but did you know the actress is also an outspoken vegan activist? She has already participated in several campaigns to promote veganism and launched the podcast “The ChickPeeps” to discuss veganism with her fans.

Most recently, she partnered with peta2 to make a horrifying “makeup tutorial” to fight against animal testing in the cosmetics industry. Long story short: it is not pretty.

In the video she undergoes simulated laboratory tests where “Chad” (the experimenter) applies chemicals to her face and eyes to test for irritation and subjects her to an “acute toxicity” test, which are routinely performed on animals by making them inhale toxic substances until they die.

Although the video features some tongue-in-cheek humor and quirky background music, it doesn’t shy away from the facts: animal testing laboratories are a living nightmare for the rats, mice, and bunnies who are forced to undergo these tests simply because they are small, gentle, and easy to handle. More than 300,000 animals are tortured and killed every year in these cruel tests, primarily in China.

“If you’re not ok with putting animals through these tests,” says the actress, “then maybe you should only be buying cosmetics that are truly cruelty-free.”

According to Lynch, some makeup products that are sold in the US and Canada that claim to be cruelty-free might still be tested on animals if they are sold from China.
