6 Non-toxic, vegan candles that’ll add instant hygge vibes to your home
When we think about our ideal cozy day, a yummy-smelling candle is always a part of the picture. Especially this time of year, as we stay comfy inside and soak up all the pine tree and cinnamon-spiced ambiance, candles make us want to grab a good book and cup of tea as we curl up on the couch under a cozy blanket. Dreamy, right? Plus, when you have a hard-to-shop-for person in your life — candles are go-to gifts. So whether you’re treating yourself or got your sister-in-law you’ve only met a handful of times for Secret Santa — here’s a list of our favorite non-toxic, vegan candles that will instantly add hygge vibes to any space.
But before we list our faves, if you’re wondering what makes a candle non-toxic and vegan — we’ve got you covered.
How to know if a candle is vegan & non-toxic
We recommend taking a look at the ingredients to confirm your candles aren’t made with paraffin. Since paraffin is a petroleum product, when it burns it produces potentially damaging byproducts (like greenhouse gases). And studies show paraffin can release cancer-causing chemicals and be harmful to people with respiratory issues like asthma. No, thank you. (Another pro tip: trim the wick to about ¼ inch after each time you burn the candle — this helps control the smoke and will also make your candle last longer.)
As for checking if a candle is vegan — look out for ingredients like beeswax and honey, which are not vegan. Typically, soy wax and coconut wax are good options. And luckily, more brands are clearly identifying products as vegan to take the guesswork out — which is much appreciated!
