We talk a lot about plastic here. Why it’s bad for the plant and how to use less of it. But for many of us, we already have lots of plastic items in our home and we’re faced with a dilemma: toss them or make the most of what we own.

So, if you have lots of plastic lingering in your home and don’t know what to do — here are some tips and inspiration on ways to reuse plastic stuff that would otherwise go in the trash.

10 easy and useful ways to reuse plastic

1. Use plastic bottles to make a bird feeder

2. Use plastic bottles as flower vases

3. Use plastic detergent jugs as planters

4. Use plastic bread bags for food storage

“We humans have become dependent on plastic for a range of uses, from packaging to products. Reducing our use of plastic bags is an easy place to start getting our addiction under control.” —David Suzuki⠀ ⠀ The haku lei (flower crown) in my painting is made entirely out of plastic bags & the necklace is made up of microplastic I’ve found on the beach 💙 ⠀ ⠀ If you’re just getting started in reducing plastic bags, it can be tricky to get in the habit of bringing your own bag, since we’re so used to just having single-use ones available to us. What really helped me, though, was stashing a few in my car, so I’d always have them with me when I was out. But if you don’t use or own a car, and you’re finding it difficult to remember to bring your own bag, make a reminder on your phone (set it to a time before you plan to leave), so you’ll be alerted to grab a reusable bag before you head out to the grocery store. Changing habits isn’t always fast or easy, but if we’ll all choose small lifestyle changes like this one, we’ll be heavily cutting back on plastic pollution in no time!😊…which will then, of course, help us better protect thousands of species, the planet on which we rely on for human existence, and (in turn) will help ensure the livelihoods of human generations following my own. #itsallconnected #savetheplanet #consumeconsciously
