Who doesn’t love popcorn? Today’s National Popcorn Day and to celebrate the occasion we’re counting down the reasons popcorn is the ultimate snack.
1. Popcorn is a whole grain
Although we pop it, corn remains a whole grain.
As you know, whole grains are an important part of a healthy diet. Studies show they can prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.
Of course, we’re talking about plain popcorn here!
2. Popcorn is full of fiber
Air-popped corn kernels contain a good amount of healthy fiber. One gram per cup to be exact.
And who only eats one cup?
3. Popcorn is a low-calorie snack
Prepared with little fat (or better yet, plain!), popcorn is a good option if you’re looking for a low-calorie snack.
In fact, five cups of popcorn comes out to a measly 150 calories.
