So you’re living a plant-based life and doing your best to help the planet – that’s seriously incredible! But if you’re like us, you’re probably wondering what’s next?
If you’re ready to take your lifestyle to the next level, start with something simple but oh-so powerful: meditation.
Keep reading to discover how plant-based lifestyles line up perfectly with meditation, and what you can do to start reaping the benefits!
It’s all about conscious living
Being plant-based is all about awareness – of animal rights, of environmental concerns, and of physical health. Instead of burying your head in the sand, you’re paying attention to what’s really going on and are finding constructive ways to deal with it all.
That’s why meditation and plant-based living go hand-in-hand; meditation also encourages awareness. It’s all about paying attention to – and detaching yourself from – your thoughts.
Discover the science-backed meditation benefits
From stress reduction, to self-esteem, to productivity, meditation packs a ton of benefits. Whether you want to regulate your emotions, reach your goals, or simply enjoy each moment more fully, meditation could be your secret weapon.
There are real numbers to back up these benefits, too. Headspace, a popular meditation app, reports that “meditation has been scientifically proven to help alleviate stress after just eight weeks of a regular practice.” There are even physical benefits, such as increased immunity, relief from IBS, and decreased pain symptoms!
Keep it simple
You don’t need to bend yourself into a lotus pose or reach nirvana in order to meditate. Find a comfy spot to sit, turn on a guided meditation, or simply enjoy silence as you observe your thoughts and focus on your breath. Even five minutes can make a big difference.
Remember – there’s no right or wrong way to meditate. Simply putting in the effort is a major victory.
There’s no such thing as a “perfect” practice
While morning meditations are a great way to start your day, a flexible meditation practice is key. There will be days when you have to meditate on a bus or during your coffee break, and that’s okay! Getting stuck in a ritual can totally derail your practice; keeping an open mind will get even easier the more you meditate!
Watch out for these meditation roadblocks
- Falling asleep is a major concern for new meditators, but sitting upright and setting an alarm can help you stay awake. After a few meditation sessions, falling asleep probably won’t be as big of an issue.
- Impatience is normal – and it will pass. Observe your emotions, allow yourself to feel them, and then let go.
- Have no idea what you’re doing? Download a meditation app like Headspace or Calm to guide you through.
Taking a few minutes a day to meditate might not seem like much, but it could have a huge, positive impact on all areas of your life. There’s no time like the present to try it out!
You can meditate in anything you like, but we recommend our “Be the energy you want to attract” tank – it’s a great reminder of the power of meditation.
